Love is the eternal word, which every day is used and misused by many, but I feel that seldom happens we can find the real love!Only through my dear friend, Antonio Cristofaro, reading the poem he dedicated to his wife, I came to understand how strong and real love can be.
To My Wife (who was one of my Pupils}
We eat a soup of clams in Marsellino
with two panzarotte and wine,
a fried pizza (filled our belly)
topped with ricotta and savoured lard,
and my guagliuncella was sweet and fine.
My dear friend, its nothing else to do
But to be able
to keep on living
you don’t need much, but have youth
which runs away
and never ‘ll be back again,
and never ‘ll be back again!
A sweet “Margherita” at the Marchese
Its where we go at month end
and my guaglioncella happily lough
and it looks like is always carnival
giving back her never ending love.
My dear friend, is nothing else to do
But to be able
to keep on living
you don’t need much, but have youth
which runs away
and never ‘ll be back,
and never ‘ll be back!
A stroll along the seaside
And my guaglioncella closed to me
giving the look as when she was at school
while a smiling sun
made me sight with relief.
My dear friend, is nothing else to do
I’m now telling you, so you will know
You ‘ve to learn well
And do as I do, and today I’m,
I’m better than a king,
And I’m better than a king!
chiena ‘e shiuseille e chiccioli in fraganza.
‘na bella guaioncella doce e fine.
Amico mio nun ce sta niente a fa
te ‘a fa capace
che per sape’ campa`
ce basta ‘o poco , o poco ‘e gioventù
che fuje sempre
e non ritorna a cchiu`.
E non ritorna a cchiu`!
‘Na bella “Margherita” addu Marchese,
addo` me porto sempre a fine mese
c’a guaglioncella che ride e vale
e sempre fa pare` ch’è Carnevale
e che me done ammore senza fine.
Amico mio non ce sta niente a fa
te ‘a capace
che per sape` campa
ce basta ‘o poco ‘o poco e gioventu
che fuje sempre
e nun ritorna cchiu,
e non ritorna cchiu!
Na passeggiata a riva e ‘o mare ‘e faccia
E “a guaglioncella mia dint” a ‘sti braccia
Ca me surride comme fosse a ‘ scole
Mentre pa` strada sta redenne ‘o sole
E che me vasa suspiranne in fine
Amico mio nun ce sta niente a fa
Io mo t’o dico e mo te l’he a ‘impara`.
Imparete buono
E fa tu comme me
Che oggi io songo
Songo cchiu ‘e nu re,
e songo cchiu` e nu re.
